Just About Books Internet Radio Talk Show Announces the Winner of the Book Award for Best Fiction -- Cheryl's Choice for 2007

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 4, 2008 -- Water In A Broken Glass by Odessa Rose and Sexual Transgressions: A Chain of Events by Miranda Ifedigbo were honored as winners of the annual Book Award for Best Fiction-Cheryl's Choice, which was announced Saturday, December 29.

In Water In A Broken Glass, Tonya Mimms comes from humble beginnings to that of a successful sculptor. She is in love with and about to marry Malcolm Holland, a handsome CPA. But the memories of a high school affair haunt her when she meets Satin Pierce. Tonya becomes sexually confused and cannot decide whether she wants to be with a man or a woman. So, she tries to find her true self. Tonya needs to stop hiding behind her sculpting and face reality. She desperately tries to decide if she should live for herself or live for others. Odessa Rose makes the reader comfortable with the characters, as well as their surroundings and graciously helps the reader to truly understand Tonya's confusion!

Ann Cobb, Assistant Professor, Department of Humanities and Media at Coppin State College wrote, "... a highly capable writer who can confront complex issues and the ripple effect they cause with down to earth language and humor."

Although, Water In A Broken Glass was published in 1999, Odessa does not think that she will write a sequel to this novel.

Sexual Transgressions: A Chain of Events is the story of a prominent pastor, Isaiah Owens, whose secrets are uncovered after a tragic accident. His secrets cause a chain of events in the lives of his sister, Madison, a successful corporate attorney; his naive wife, Angela and their child; and his mother, Georgia, who will do anything to protect her son's reputation as a well-loved pastor. His dishonesty has affected the entire family and all of those around him. If you die unexpectedly, what type of situations would your family find? His primary secret created a disastrous chain of events with difficult consequences for his family. Miranda has cleverly written a wonderful story about deception that makes all of us think about our "perfect" lives. Miranda makes the characters come alive and stay with the reader long after they finish the book, especially Nana Rose. Miranda has a beautiful voice and she also includes a CD with two inspiring songs about the story -- I Care For You and Overcomer.

Ifedigbo said, "Many book clubs are reading the book and a few readers have told me that they feel as though I am writing about their life."

Miranda is currently working on her next novel, The Donner, another novel with a chain of events.

Cheryl's Choice Book Award is among the most eminent literary awards and is one of the few awards presented by Talk Shows that recognize quality as an increasingly important area of African American author's contributions to a book lover's world. Started in 2005, the awards are presented annually to authors for literature showcased on the Just About Books Talk Show during the year. The purpose of the awards is two-fold: it recognizes and encourages the writing and publishing of outstanding books; and it raises the cultural appreciation of great writing in America. This award will continue as part of the Just About Books Talk Show's Annual recognition of African American authors.

Previous years winners were The Enigma of Njama by Anthony D. Wilbon in 2006 and Snake Walkers by J. Everett Prewitt in 2005.
