InfoTech Report Details Growing Opportunities For Third-Party Wireless Support Services Vendors
Parsippany, NJ (PRWEB) August 17, 2007 -- According to the latest InfoTech "InfoTrack for Enterprise Mobility" report, with more smartphones being introduced into the market from the major handset OEMs -- coupled with a growing mobile workforce -- many enterprise companies polled said they required some form of outside expertise when it came to choosing mobile devices and mobile applications. By 2010, 100 percent of respondents said they would be using some type of third-party wireless support service.
"Wireless Support Services in the Enterprise" is based on survey responses from InfoTech's research panel of U.S. and international enterprise and SMB decision makers. Results of the survey also found that:
? The trend of workers "going mobile" and becoming an even larger percentage of the overall workforce is anticipated to grow from between 0 percent and 25 percent for the majority of enterprises today to between 25 percent and 50 percent by 2010.
? Nearly one-third of respondents indicated internal capabilities to support the existing mobile workforce is minimal or nonexistent, and only 17.7 percent indicated their internal capabilities fully address all requirements and needs.
? The two top vendor issues for decision makers as they consider third-party support for mobile communications are vendors' ability to provide a single point of contact and full accountability, and vendors' ability to offer a complete wireless turnkey solution.
? Between 20 percent and 30 percent of respondents indicated savings of between 20 percent and more than 30 percent when using third-party support. The area that contributed most to such savings was ongoing maintenance services.
"It's quite obvious that mobility within the workforce will continue to see increased penetration within the North American market by 2010. As this trend continues, demand for support of these workers, their devices and the applications will continue to increase," says Mike O'Neill, InfoTech vice president and publisher. "However, the issue remains internally supported vs. third-party outsourcing. The classic 'make or buy' decision remains alive and well. Third-party vendors need to present a clear and tangible return on investment to enterprise customers as requirements shift from just supporting the network or mobile devices to more intangible solutions like software applications that may or may not create a more efficient and effective mobile workforce."
With most North American enterprises polled saying the number of their workers going mobile will increase to 50 percent in three years, "Wireless Support Services in the Enterprise" predicts this shift will create opportunities for providers of third-party wireless support services because mobile devices and applications continue to become more complex as technology platforms spanning operating systems and different network access technologies evolve and become available.
